Fiberglass Insulation Chattanooga, TN
Fiberglass works, when it is actually installed properly
Most of the fiberglass we find underperforming was not a bad product choice. It was compressed, gapped around wiring, or left short at the eaves where it mattered most.
Batts, and Why Installation Quality Decides the Result
A fiberglass batt reaches its rated R-value only when it fills the cavity edge to edge at full loft, cut around obstructions rather than crushed past them. Stuffed behind a wire, squashed by a cross brace or left with a finger gap at the stud, it loses a large share of its rating. The material is rarely the problem; the fit almost always is.
When Fiberglass Is the Right Call
It is a sound, economical choice in a simple, well-vented attic, in cavities with easy uninterrupted access, and where budget decides the scope. It does not air seal, so where air movement is the actual fault we will tell you foam is the better spend rather than selling you the cheaper line. Call (423) 799-3836.
Questions
Common questions
Is fiberglass worse than spray foam?
It is different. Fiberglass slows heat transfer but does not stop air movement, and air movement is the fault in most underperforming buildings.
Can fiberglass batts be installed over existing insulation?
Sometimes, if the existing material is dry and uncompacted. Laying new batts over damp or settled material traps the problem.
Does fiberglass insulation attract moisture?
It does not absorb water the way cellulose can, but it also does nothing to stop the moist air moving through it.
