Wall Insulation Chattanooga, TN

The one chance you get at a wall is while it is open

Once drywall goes on, the cavity is closed for the life of the building. Insulating properly during framing costs a fraction of reaching those cavities again later.

Open Cell or Closed Cell in a Wall

Open cell fills the cavity completely, air seals it and costs less, which makes it the usual answer for interior and standard exterior walls. Closed cell gives a higher R-value per inch and adds rigidity, which earns its place in shallow cavities, exposed walls and anywhere the assembly needs the vapour control. We specify by wall, not by preference.

Additions, Gut Renovations and New Framing

These are the three moments a wall is reachable. If you are adding on, taking a house back to studs, or framing new, that is the window. We work to the framing schedule rather than the other way round, and the written scope names the product, the thickness and the cavities covered. Call (423) 799-3836.

Questions

Common questions

Can you insulate existing walls without removing drywall?

Dense-pack through small access holes is possible in some assemblies. We look at the wall before saying yes, because it depends on what is already in the cavity.

Does wall insulation help with noise?

It helps, particularly open cell foam, though a wall built specifically for sound uses a different assembly.

Do exterior walls need a vapour barrier in Tennessee?

It depends on the assembly and the product used. Closed cell foam at thickness performs that role itself.
