Soundproofing Insulation Chattanooga, TN

Quiet is an assembly, not a product you spray on

Open cell foam absorbs airborne sound well inside a wall or floor, and it is one part of the answer. Honest sound work means saying which noise it will fix and which it will not.

What Open Cell Foam Does for Noise

It is soft and open structured, so it absorbs airborne sound rather than reflecting it: voices, television, traffic, a home office beside a living room. The common jobs are media rooms, bedrooms over garages, shared walls in a duplex and floors above a finished basement. Foam fills the cavity completely, which also removes the gaps that let sound flank around conventional batts.

Where Foam Alone Will Not Be Enough

Impact noise, meaning footsteps and bass through a structure, travels through framing rather than air, so cavity insulation alone will not stop it. That needs decoupling or mass added to the assembly. If that is the noise bothering you we will say so rather than sell you a cavity fill that disappoints. Call (423) 799-3836.

Questions

Common questions

Will spray foam make my room completely soundproof?

No. It substantially reduces airborne noise through the assembly it fills. Anyone promising total silence from cavity insulation is overselling.

Is open or closed cell better for sound?

Open cell. It is softer and more absorptive; closed cell is rigid and transmits more sound.

Can you soundproof a room that is already finished?

Only by opening the assembly, so it is usually done during a renovation rather than as a standalone job.
