When Material Has to Come Out
Four situations account for nearly all of it: water damage from a roof leak, rodent contamination, smoke after a fire, and material so settled or degraded it no longer performs. In each case the existing insulation is holding moisture, odour or contaminant that new material laid on top would simply cover. The attic is vacuumed out, bagged and removed, and the deck left clean.

Do I always need the old insulation removed?
No, and we will tell you when it can stay. Removal is for material that is damp, contaminated, damaged or fully settled.
How do you remove attic insulation?
It is vacuumed out through a hose into sealed bags, which keeps the dust and contaminant out of the living space.
Can new insulation go in the same day?
Often yes on a residential attic, once the space is clean, dry and any underlying leak has been addressed.
